RUN THIS

I ran that sucka in 25:27. 5k that is.

The rolling earth that is Ft. McDowell graced me with green mucus and a dead ipod. The race began late, 7:30 am., a departure from its 700 am starting time due to misplaced numbers and a larger turnout then expected.

No worries for me, I got there with 10 minutes to spare and hit the bathroom like no ones bizness. I think I may have performance anxiety as my bladder has made its name known to all the racing facilities in the Phoenix area. Anywho, did my biz and off to register....$5 registration fee yo. But MAN!! It was hella cold!! In my 615 A.M. daze..I had thrown on my trusty red racing shorts, my gray longsleeved ASU tee, my brand new purple asics with the hi-arch support, my racing wet socks, and of course my new reddish braid and silver ipod with my "rundrerun" playlist.

Everyone was hangin in the registration area, which was conveniently inside the rec center, but I decided to brave the cold and try to get acclimated. I jogged a bit up and down the strip of road, but I was so tight (LEGS LEGS)! It was so cold that i had goose bumps up and down my leg and frozen hands that were so cold they had that hot feeling.ya know what im sayin?

FInally, 7 minutes to showtime. Some last minute stretching...still feeling tight but what the hell ya gonna do? For realz do, this race, I was kinda not feeling it. The night before I had gone out with some bros from out of town to Macayos for some iced tea, good conversation and some dj wreck on da ones and twos. Luckily, the nite ended at 12 am but when I got home, I made myself crash at 115 am. Plus, I was having this river pour outta my right nostril all nite. I believe lil Man's slight cold and had infected redmomma's sinus. But NO EXCUSES, I was there to run and dammit I said i would. Sides, my thinking was that I could run out my cold..ya know, do the snot nose out the gun effect..hold the one nostril while you blow out the other...ol skool babee..hehe.

THere I was messing with my mini when ,,WHOA we began. Just pressed whatever and began. That first mile was so FREAKIN COLD! When I was runnin I felt like a robot, all mechanic and stiff...but with no pain. I was feeling the pace and the music. Focusing on down, the usual peeps that gun it and then start falling behind whipped behind me. That first mile was on an slight incline that my sore lungs were feeling a bit.., with my trying not to hit anyone with my loogie missles. I was feeling good too since I knew that this incline would become a decline on our last mile back. I had my pace and caught up to this older woman whose pace I was feeling..we matched stride for stride another 3/4 mile..then I felt strong enough to break the pace and speed it up a bit. By then I had kinda broken outta my robot daze and was able to gauge my position and see how I was feeling. My body had loosened up, but my breathing was terrible! Somewhere around mile 1.3 my jams had died, so I could hear my poor strangled breathing...making me hella tired. Man, I didnt know that's how I sounded! I pushed through it do and bit it, gliding another 1/2 mile up on another slight incline...to the finish! Passed this ol skool running bro of my poppaz in the last 1/2 mile....I was so proud of myself, for sucking it up and catching up to him. Though I was sounding worse than ever. The last 1/4 mile..this young ladee all of 17 pushed past me and gunned it to the end ..beating me by like 6 seconds..I was kinda pissed at myself for that but then I thought to myself ..not to shabby for someone who wasn't feeling the run in the beginning..

So all in all, I ran that sucka in 25:27 and received 3rd place in my age group, 21=30. I also received a nice $25 buck gift certificate to an westcor Mall..so thank you Ft. McDowell..my cousins to the east.

Ps. I love my new shoes. indulgence ....
